City: Berlin, Munich
With a campus located in the center of one of Europe’s most happening cities, ESMT Berlin (Germany) has a lot going for it before you even consider its international reputation, teaching excellence and globally-acknowledged research. Berlin is a city that’s synonymous with startups, but it’s also the national and international headquarters for some of the biggest companies in the world.
Despite being founded relatively recently, in 2002, ESMT has shot up the rankings to establish itself as not only the top business schools in Germany, but also among the top schools in the whole of Europe.
So what’s their secret? Well, one advantage they have over competitors is their unique links with business. ESMT was founded by a group of 25 leading global companies and institutions including Airbus, Allianz, BMW, Lufthansa, Siemens, meaning ESMT Berlin can benefit from the links with these companies like very few other business schools can.
The MBA programs on offer here also set ESMT apart from the rest of the field. Prospective students can choose between the Part-Time MBA, Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA. If it’s flexibility you’re after then the part-time option is 80% online and 20% face-to-face, taking place over 24 months in either Berlin or Munich. The full-time program begins in January of each year with a real focus on internationalism – over 80% of faculty members have a non-German background whilst that figure is 92% for the most recent MBA class. The Executive MBA course is in the format of a series of one-week modules across 18 months, including three trips abroad to global business hubs. And finally, the Global Online MBA is fully taught online and targets individuals who want flexibility in their studies. It is set up to be a 24-month program, with the option to take up to five years to complete it at your own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions about ESMT
Do you see the current pandemic affecting intake of international students by ESMT?
We have not yet seen an impact on the number of international applications we have received. The biggest thing we are wary of is people being unable to get a visa whilst embassies are closed. We do have provision for online teaching for all of our programs in case this is still going on later in the year. Yet, we are very confident it will not come to that.
Why would you say 88% of the graduates end up working in Germany?
We find that for many people staying in Germany, it is a good way to get access to the European economy, which has lots of opportunities. All graduates can remain in Germany for 18 months following graduation, which is available for all graduates, regardless of nationality or income. So, for many people this is a unique opportunity to relocate. Students also have access to many more networking opportunities in Germany, and therefore have a better chance of finding their perfect job here. After the 18-month visa has expired, around 1/3 of students will stay in Germany long term, 1/3 will move somewhere else in Europe, and the final 1/3 will move internationally. One of the main benefits we see for our students is the increased exposure to networking whilst they study with us. This benefit, alongside the technical and leadership knowledge does almost always lead to an immediate benefit to your career. We have a careers team who will work with you to find a job after graduation.
What is the average age of the MBA class?
The average age of the MBA class is around 31, with the youngest in the class being 26 and the oldest members over 40, so it is a real mixture.
