A Transformative Pre-MBA Experience

At the 2024 China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) Pre-MBA Summer Bootcamp, 36 students from the world’s top universities gathered in Shanghai to explore China’s dynamic business landscape and to get a taste of one of the 2024 world’s best-ranked MBA programs. Over six exciting days, participants engaged in interactive workshops, explored innovative business models and connected with industry leaders, all while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Shanghai.

Matty Huan, a Senior at Duke University, reflects, “In the workshop, we will talk about our vision, our strengths, and our danger zones. In this case, after the workshop, we can learn more about ourselves and learn more about our own personality.” (00:29)

Through case studies and group activities, participants were challenged to apply their knowledge to real-world business scenarios. These exercises allowed students to simulate high-pressure business environments, honing their decision-making and teamwork skills.

Matty Huan further explains, “For me, as a student with an engineering background, I’m not familiar with case studies, so I learned a lot about case study discussions in the lecture.” (00:13)

This hands-on approach ensured that all participants, regardless of their academic background, could engage with the material and develop essential business acumen.

Building a Global Network

The CEIBS Pre-MBA Summer Bootcamp wasn’t just about personal development and building connections. The program provided ample opportunities for students to network with each other, alums, and industry leaders. One of the highlights for many participants was the alum dinner, where students had the chance to meet and learn from successful CEIBS graduates.

Junior at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Dylan DA, highlights, “I’m enjoying the alumni dinner session the most. It gives me the precious opportunity to develop my network with industry leaders,” one participant said. “It’s very good for me to step out of my comfort zone and to meet with people who have a lot of expertise and working experiences.” (01:11)

These networking opportunities were invaluable for students looking to expand their global network and gain insights into the Chinese business world. For many participants, connecting with alumni who had successfully navigated their MBA journeys was particularly motivating.

Immersing in China’s Culture

The Summer Bootcamp is about more than just business; it allows participants to immerse themselves in Chinese culture. For many, this was their first time visiting China, and the program’s cultural activities provided a deep and enriching experience. 

Maynawan Suthisamphat shares, “I have a lot of Chinese friends here, and these are the first Chinese friends of mine, and I can learn about their culture, mindset, and life activities, which is really intriguing to me as a foreigner. I really appreciate the friendships here.” (01:36)

This cultural exchange was an essential aspect of the program, helping students better understand the nuances of doing business in China. The friendships formed during the boot camp extended beyond professional connections, creating a supportive global community of future leaders.

Exploring Shanghai’s Business Landscape

One of the most exciting aspects of the CEIBS Pre-MBA Summer Bootcamp was the opportunity for students to explore Shanghai’s dynamic business landscape. The program included visits to several leading companies in China, giving participants a firsthand look at how business is conducted in one of the world’s most important economic centers.

During these company visits, students could observe how Chinese companies operate and adapt to the fast-paced global market. For many, this was an eye-opening experience that broadened their understanding of international business practices. 

Maynawan highlights, “I enjoyed the company visit the most. I could see all the real experiences of how working in China will be like, and it’s very intriguing for me as a foreigner.” (00:47)

These insights into the Chinese business world were critical takeaways for many participants, helping them better prepare for their future careers in international business.

Faculty and Alumni Insights

A significant highlight of the boot camp was the chance to learn from CEIBS’s world-class faculty and alumni. The professors at CEIBS are known for their deep expertise and passion for teaching, and the boot camp allowed participants to engage with them in a close-knit, hands-on setting.

Matty notes, “I truly learned a lot from the passionate professors, friendly staff, and open-minded friends here.” (01:58)

Maynawan adds, “If you are a foreigner like me and want to find opportunities for studying in China, I really recommend [the CEIBS Pre-MBA Summer Bootcamp], because here there is everything.” (02:06)
