Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Eugenio de la Garza Revilla decided to pursue a Full-time MBA at ESMT Berlin and write the next chapter of his career and life in Europe.

More specifically, he knew that he wanted to study and live in Berlin, Germany. And ESMT Berlin was the right place for him to do just that. As an alumnus, he currently works as a Senior Consultant at Ramboll Management Consulting and thrives in the dynamic and multicultural city of Berlin.

Eugenio shares his insights into why he chose this MBA and the value of doing an MBA in Berlin as an international candidate.

Career Goals: MBAs Lead the Way

Eugenio previously studied chemical engineering in Mexico. After his studies, he began working in a petrochemical company, in the strategic planning sector. His tasks mainly centered on finance projects and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). He worked in this sector for six years, gaining valuable work experience. 

However, at one point, he felt that he was ready for a change. He wanted a next step that would further elevate his career trajectory, such as an MBA.

Eugenio reflects, “At some point, I realized that to keep growing in my career, I needed to further my studies, and I decided on an MBA. When I looked up to the people who were my bosses and my bosses’ bosses, I realized that the thing they all had in common was an MBA.” (00:38)

Pursuing an MBA was more than just gaining a degree. He knew that an MBA degree would help him to gain new skills, competencies, and the latest industry trend knowledge. Additionally, it would help him to expand his network, gain valuable connections, and help him transition to international business life in Europe.

Blending Language Skills With Career Goals in the Heart of Europe

When deciding to pursue an MBA degree, the study destination is as important as the program and school you choose. In Eugenio’s case, he knew from the start that he wanted to study in Europe. (00:53)

He felt that Germany was the right place to pursue an MBA so that he could leverage his existing German language skills. (01:13) After all, speaking the local language is a big advantage when moving abroad.

Germany continues to draw international students from all over the world. It is one of the best places in the world to study for an MBA. It remains an appealing choice for many international students due to its robust economy and large business market. Berlin, in particular, offers a unique combination of traditional German culture and international appeal.

A Curriculum That Puts Data Analytics at the Center

ESMT Berlin stood out to Eugenio for a myriad of reasons. Firstly, ESMT Berlin offered the fastest program that would allow him to gain his MBA without taking extensive time off from his career. 

Secondly, he felt that the curriculum covered the topics that were most relevant to him. He says, “There were two things that really stood out to me when I was looking into the ESMT curriculum: their finance approach and their focus on data analytics.” (01:37)

The Full-time MBA at ESMT Berlin ensures that students make the most of their MBA programs through a 15-month, immersive learning experience. The program is taught in English and takes place in person in Berlin.

Students can tailor their learning journey by choosing between two specialization tracks: Managerial Analytics, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. They can also choose from a wide range of electives, study at a partner school, complete a summer internship, and develop their German language skills. 

This ensures that students can tailor their learning to best suit their needs and long-term career goals.

In his current role as Senior Consultant at Ramboll Management Consulting, he has been able to apply his MBA learnings in his everyday work. He has improved his data presentation skills and better understands customer needs and how to present solutions effectively and impactfully.

He elaborates, “All the tools that I’ve learned in my MBA, I’ve put them into practice every day.” (01:49)

He emphasizes, “Berlin is my new home. I love living in Berlin and I wouldn’t live in any other city. Berlin provides me with everything that I need in order to feel at home.” (02:07)

He also underscores, “I can find people from many cultures and many paths of life. And also everybody is very open to new experiences. I’m able to live [the] life that I want to live here in Berlin.” (02:21) 

Due to the diversity of the city, he never feels like an outsider. He continues to be inspired by different cultures and experiences, all within one city.

6,500 Startups and Counting: Why Berlin is Ideal for MBA Talent

Living in Berlin is also advantageous as there are numerous work opportunities. As the capital of Germany, and with a big city atmosphere, it continues to attract international people and organizations.

Eugenio notes, “I also chose Berlin because of the many opportunities it provides for internationals, like me, or [for] MBA graduates.” (02:35) 

In particular, Berlin has thriving tech, finance, and start-up sectors. Berlin is home to 6,500 start-ups, and approximately one-third of all Fintech startups in Germany are located in Berlin. 

Regardless of which sector you want to delve into after completing your MBA, Berlin is home to a multitude of traditional and emerging sectors.

Graduation Isn’t the End, It’s Just the Beginning

Eugenio’s journey showcases the program’s ability to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in a competitive global market. 

Additionally, his student experience and the connections he forged will stay with him long after graduation. He concludes, “I’m very grateful for the time at ESMT, especially for all the people I met and learned from during the program.” (02:49)
