Creating Dynamic Leaders in a Changing World

The convergence of technological innovation and financial market evolution is accelerating at an unprecedented pace. This uncertain landscape requires leaders who understand the key shifts that will define a new era. With this in mind, Amsterdam Business School (ABS) created a unique MBA in Finance program, the only one of its kind in the Netherlands, with a mission to help cultivate a new generation of leaders at the apex of finance, technology, and societal impact.

ABS has a reputation in Europe and across the world as a top-tier educational institution. The school has over 400 years of history, and has a reputation for developing independent thinkers. Dr. Jens Martin, Program Director of the school’s new MBA in Finance, says the program was designed to be future-proof and empower the next generation of finance professionals.

“After discussion with industry leaders in Amsterdam and Europe, we realized that there’s a gap between the traditional MBA programs and the very specific Master’s in Finance,” explains Jens. “We are now able to bridge this gap.” (00:15)

The program takes a combined approach. On one hand, it’s designed to give students focused expertise, giving them a precise understanding of modern finance; on the other, they get the wide scope and foundational knowledge that comes with a typical MBA program.

A Modern Approach to Teaching

Relevant knowledge today may not be relevant tomorrow. That’s why the ABS MBA is flexible, with an ever-evolving curriculum that helps ABS graduates better understand a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Esther Eiling is an Associate Professor of the MBA in Finance program at ABS. She highlights the importance of the school’s research-based approach to teaching.

“We have a lot of faculty members who teach but also spend a lot of time doing academic research, writing and publishing articles, and going to conferences,” she says, “sharing those insights with the students and explaining how they connect to real-world issues.” (00:56)

The continuously evolving curriculum enables students to apply the latest developments in finance and technology. As Jens says, “We do that by teaching state-of-the-art courses, which are updated every year to address these current changes.” (01:14

This, Jens explains, enables you to apply your knowledge in finance and technology to your company. This enables you to not just understand change but also be the one who makes change happen.

Deep Theory Meets Original Thinking

Robust theoretical training creates sharp critical thinkers, while structured frameworks provide students with the ability to approach problems with an analytical mindset. With deductive reasoning and methodical evaluation, they can better understand the scope of problems. This rigorous engagement creates the foundation for high-level, independent thought.

“We always go back to the fundamental knowledge and also the academic way of analysing problems,” explains Esther. “That helps build the skill set of critical thinking, of analyzing, [and] of asking the right questions.” (01:46

This approach gives students foundational knowledge of financial concepts, enabling practical application and innovative decision-making.

A Historic Reputation For Excellence

ABS is among the 1% of elite business schools in the world with a Triple Crown accreditation. This comes from three independent accreditors: the British Association of MBAs (AMBA), the American AACSB, and the European body EQUIS.

As a part of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), ABS is backed by a rich history of academic excellence. Moreover, the latest QS Full-time MBA Rankings places the school at #24 in Europe.

“The advantage of the University of Amsterdam is that we [have been] an established player for the last 400 years,” says Jens. “We have a reputation in Europe and across the world.” (02:01)

This reputation, says Jens, will speak for itself when it comes to your career. “Future employers will know the quality of our teaching. This will help the student accelerate their career to find the job they’re longing for,” he says. (02:12)

However, the school doesn’t just let its reputation do the talking. With its Economics and Business Career Centre (EBCC), students and alumni can access in-depth professional development advice and guidance. This ensures that you have the best support long after graduation.

Don’t Fear the Unknown. Embrace It

Do you see yourself as a change-maker? Are you curious about the Amsterdam Business School MBA in Finance? If so, Esther has some key words of advice.

“You need to be prepared to work hard,” she says. “But I think what’s even more important is that you’re prepared to push yourself to go a little bit outside your comfort zone … that’s where you’ll learn the most. (02:22)

In an uncertain world, become a leader who sees the unknown as an opportunity for growth and positive change. With the ABS MBA in Finance, you’ll engage with new ideas from a diverse cohort, gain new abilities, and learn to make big decisions in high-stakes environments.

By embracing the unknown, you won’t just learn to navigate an uncertain world. You’ll gain the ability to shape it.
