But which ranking should you listen to? You can use our MBA Rankings Cheat Code and work out the weighting for each one, aligning the outcomes with your desired goals, employability rates, ROI, alumni networks – the list goes on.
Every year we review the QS Global MBA Rankings to look for clues: which schools are consistently delivering on their promise as the best and brightest in the world? The QS rankings are the industry standard for employer reputation and ROI on your degree.
Let’s take a closer look at the top-ranking schools, the methodology used for this ranking, the key trends for 2027, and what this ranking means for MBA students.
Method in the Mix: Why Use the QS Global MBA Rankings?
The methodology is measured using three surveys: the QS Global Employer Survey, the QS Global Academic Survey, and a survey completed by the business schools.
The five main indicators include:
- Employability (40%) – Employer reputation, employment rates, and hiring outcomes
- Entrepreneurship & Alumni Outcomes (15%) – Entrepreneurial success and alumni achievements in relation to successful companies
- Return on Investment (20%) – Based on 10-year ROI, comparing post-MBA salaries to salaries before enrolment, and how long it takes to pay back study costs
- Thought Leadership (15%) – Academic reputation and research impact of the school, as relating to the academic community
- Diversity (10%) – Gender balance and international representation in both faculty and students
In addition, to be eligible for the Global MBA Rankings, schools must meet these criteria:
- Hold either AACSB, AMBA, or EQUIS accreditation
- Have an average class size of a minimum of 15 students
- Must teach primarily on campus (ie, not online)
- Must teach full-time programs

Results & Key Trends for 2027
MIT Sloan Takes the Crown
MIT Sloan claims the #1 spot for 2027, climbing two places from third last year, while Wharton, 2026’s top school, slips to fourth. Harvard holds steady at #2 and Stanford edges up one place to #3, earning a perfect score for Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes. This also means the US still occupies the top four positions, just as it did last year. Overall, the US retains five of the top 10 spots, down slightly from six in 2026, as Chicago Booth breaks into the top 10 (up from #15) at the expense of Kellogg SOM and Columbia Business School. This may be due to Chicago Booth ranking highly across Thought Leadership, ROI and Employability.
Europe Consolidates, Doesn’t Just Participate
Europe’s presence in the top 10 has actually grown: the U.K. now holds three places (Cambridge Judge, Oxford Saïd, and London Business School), with Oxford Saïd jumping from equal #12 to #7 and gaining the highest score in the top 10 for Diversity and the second highest in the ranking for Though Leadership after MIT Sloan. France holds firm with HEC Paris and INSEAD. Combined, European schools now account for five of the top 10, matching the US for the first time in recent memory, and 37 of the top 100 globally, ahead of the US’s 34.
Asia Holds Steady, Doesn’t Yet Break Into Top 10
As in 2026, no Asian school cracks the top 10. NUS in Singapore remains Asia’s highest-ranked program at #23, unchanged year-on-year, while Tsinghua slips slightly to #29. Encouragingly, Asia now claims 16 of the top 100 spots, with Hong Kong’s CUHK and City University climbing 12 places apiece, signalling steady, if gradual, progress rather than a breakthrough.
Movers Beyond the Top Tier
Elsewhere, Canada’s Ivey Business School at Western University (+27) and the U.K.’s Durham Univeristy Business School (+20) posted the year’s biggest jumps into the top 100, while several Indian and Chinese schools, including IIM Calcutta (-31) and Peking University (-21) — fell sharply, underlining how volatile mid-table competition has become.
How To Use This Ranking If You Are An MBA Candidate
For international students, the QS Global MBA Rankings 2027 results highlight the programs worth considering if you are looking for a pipeline to a secure career goal. U.S. and European schools continue to set a high standard. Nonetheless, MBA programs in the APAC region offer strong opportunities for those seeking a global career.
Ultimately, the QS Global MBA Rankings serve as a well-trusted benchmark. However, keep in mind that rankings are only one step in your information search. Rankings are a useful tool, but at the end of the day, the best choice for you is a program that aligns with your individual career goals, work schedule, and specific expectations.
